In this hands-on workshop, you will be guided by a professional wagashi artisan to createtwo types of traditional Japanese sweets, each representing the beauty of Japan’s autumn season.Each participant will makea total of four sweets(two of each kind), enjoy tasting them at the end of the session, and take home any remaining pieces.

"Moon Rabbit" & "Shining Leaves"

  1. “Moon Rabbit” – Steamed Yam Manju (Jōyo Manjū) with smooth red bean pasteInspired by the full moon of the Japanese harvest festival (Jugoya), this sweet features a steamed yam bun.You will decorate the rabbit’s eyes (using edible coloring) and ears (using cinnamon) yourself.
  2. “Shining Leaves” – Nerikiri sweet with chunky red bean pasteSymbolizing autumn foliage with persimmon leaves, this sweet is made using three colors of pre-dyednerikiridough.You will shape and craft the leaf design by hand.

WHAT TO BRING

  • All ingredients and tools will be provided by the organizers.
  • Feel free to ask any questions during the session – we encourage curiosity and creativity!
  • There is nothing you need to bring, but we recommend wearing clothing with sleeves that can be rolled up easily.

Professional Background in Wagashi:

2005: Graduated from the Japan Confectionery School in Setagaya, Tokyo

2005–2021: Joined Toraya Kurokawa, one of Japan’s most renowned wagashi makers
• 6 years in the Namagashi (seasonal sweets) production team at the Tokyo factory
• 3 years in the custom order division, creating sweets for VIP clients
• 3 years in product development, designing new items for Toraya's lineup

2017~2021: Assigned to Toraya Paris Boutique

2023: Founded her own wagashi business and is currently working independently

  • Tea Ceremony: 5 years of experience (licensed instructor)
  • Kimono Dressing: Skilled (non-certified)
  • Kendo: 2nd-dan black belt
